FOR KIDS
Dover Community Quilt Program
Dover Community Quilts History
The Dover Community Quilts Project began in 2001 as a complement to a Children's
Story Hour reading selection, The Quiltmaker's Gift by Jeff Brumbeau.
The Quiltmaker's Gift is a beautiful picture book which celebrates the value of
generosity, the spirit of community, and the quilting tradition. The Quiltmaker's Gift
tells the story of a greedy king, who with the help of a generous quiltmaker learns to find
happiness by giving his possessions away.
At the Dover Town Library each Fall, children create quilt squares which are then sewn into
finished quilts with each quilt having a specific theme. Finished quilts are given away to Dover
senior citizens during the holidays.
The Community Quilts Project links young and old in a constructive and inclusive manner. For more
information, please contact the Children's Department at 508-785-8117.
Funding for this program is generously provided by the Friends of the Dover Town Library.
